If Styric spells are nothing more than requests to a God, how do Zalasta’s spells work at Sephrenia and Vanion’s wedding when he has no God left to appeal to? This one was argued back and forth a bit. The one solution that was given stems from the apparent relationship between Edæmus and the Delphae. Before he departed to prepare the way for their eventual journey, he seems to have granted the Delphae the power to act on their own without requesting his assistance. It seems logical to conclude, then, that a God or other source of power could just as easily have given Zalasta the power to act on his own. Where he got that power from is another matter entirely. Rumor and Aphrael concluded that it was Klæl. As Rumor pointed out, a God is of this (i.e., Sparhawk’s) world and has reason to feel threatened by a human with the power to act on his own.
