What global winds blow in fairly constant patterns?
Going from the equator toward the poles you have: an area of relatively calm winds called the doldrums (near the equator); then the trade winds, which blow from the northeast in the northern hemisphere and the southeast in the southern hemisphere; another area of relatively calm light winds in the subtropics (15-30 degrees) called the horse latitudes; the westerlies occur poleward of that, then near the poles you have the polar easterlies. You should be able to find lots of diagrams of these winds online, here’s one: http://facstaff.gpc.
