What gives the best thermal qualities – hard-coated or soft-coated glass?
Soft-coatings are applied as a separate process, using a magnetron. Hard-coatings are applied on the float line as the glass is manufactured, with the coating fused into the surface whilst the glass is still hot. Hard-coatings are durable and easy to process, whilst soft-coatings, since they are applied as a separate process, offer the greatest flexibility on the number and type of layers that can be applied to the glass.
