What Gets Rid of Heartburn?
Heartburn is a burning feeling in the esophagus just under the sternum that is associated with the digestive tract. Many people misinterpret heartburn as a problem with the heart but there is no association. It is usually caused by the stomach contents backing up into the esophagus, but can also result from peptic ulcers and an increase of acid production in the gastric tract (gastric hyperacidity). The cause of heartburn is not really known and can vary from person to person, therefore the way to get rid of heartburn should be determined on a case by case basis. It is usually linked with dietary habits and lifestyle choices. Chronic and persistent heartburn is a major cause for concern and should be reported to a health care provider immediately.
