What GED Programs and Courses Exist for Residents of Texas?
Free GED classes in Texas are offered by the Department of Adult Basic Education at educational facilities both across the state and online. Students must attend an in-person orientation session prior to enrollment. GED prep classes generally last several weeks. Course topics mirror the topics on the GED test itself, science, mathematics, writing, reading and social studies. An in-school GED program is available for students who are not expected to graduate from high school or earn a traditional high school diploma. This program, known as the High School Equivalency Program (HSEP), prepares students to take the GED examination. In addition to being at risk of not graduating, students are also eligible to participate in the HSEP program if they have received a court order telling them to participate in a GED preparatory class or to take the GED examination.
