What future research is needed in the area of weight management and culinary spices and herbs?
MSI is currently looking at the potential role of spices on energy balance. Studies will attempt to understand: • If and how specific spices and their interactions influence food selection, satiety, total energy intake, nutrient partitioning, metabolic rates and ultimately body composition, body weight and adipose tissue distribution. • The role of spices as adjuncts to a variety of weight loss treatments and on the metabolic changes associated with weight loss. • The potential ability of spices to improve digestion, absorption, and nutrient intake in people who are underweight or malnourished. MSI plans to investigate these issues with rigorous scientific research. We hope to learn more about weight management and potential role of culinary herbs and spices.
