What funding is available to support a Chinese language program?

The federal government is increasing funding to support programs of critical languages, including Chinese. So far, most of the funding comes under the name FLAP (Foreign Language Assistance Program). There are two types of FLAP grants: one for state education agencies (such as ODE) and the other for K-12 schools. The FLAP grant provides three-year funding to start a new program or support an existing one. (The Diocese of Columbus – Catholic Schools was awarded a FLAP grant in 2007.) For more information about federal and state funding to support Chinese language programs in K-12 schools, please contact the ODE World Language Consultants Debbie Robinson (614-995-0232 or debbie.robinson@ode.state.oh.us) or Ryan Wertz (614-728-4630 or ryan.wertz@ode.state.oh.us).
