What fruits are good in a fruit salad?

Avoid mixing in raspberries or blackberries, they get crushed and stain the salad. Same goes for fresh plums or apricots, generally. I personally like tropical fruit, because it’s rare to see it in fruit salad – sliced mangoes, dragon fruit (pitahaya), papaya, peeled persimmon slices, or starfruit (since it’s so pretty). Kiwis add an interesting texture, and the gold ones are especially pretty. Cranberries are beautiful, but need to be mixed with very sweet other fruits or doused in a sweet sauce. Melon slices have a beautiful smell and colour, and most people love them. Peeled peach and apple slices hold their shape nicely in a salad, but are a bit boring. You can also mixed in dried fruit, especially if it’s a winter fruit salad, or one that uses flavourings like nutmeg, cinnamon, or booze.
