1. The earth is desolate-a bottomless pit. Jeremiah 4:23 “I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void.” The desolation of the earth is brought on by a series of tragic events: (1) the awful plagues, including the general carnage and devastation of Armageddon; (2) the awesome advent of Christ in glory, at which time the wicked are destroyed by fire and the earth is broken up by a great earthquake (Revelation 16: 17-21).
