What forms of renewable energy will be used?
We will reduce the need to use energy in the first place by having efficient buildings, walkable neighbourhoods, live-work opportunities and low carbon transport patterns. We will also substitute fossil fuels with renewable energy. This will include some of the following: • Deep Geo-thermal energy utilises the energy that can be captured from hot rocks deep under the surface by drilling down to them to produce heat and create electrical energy at the surface. • Wind Power. The clay area has an excellent wind resource and the potential to exploit this tried and tested energy source is significant. • Anaerobic Digestion produces methane and other natural gases by the digestion of organic wastes, such as garden and food waste; it is a very ‘green’ technology and turns a waste product into useable fuel. • Biomass, the production of what is effectively firewood, can be grown on Imerys’ own estate.
