What forms of discrimination could affect a jobseeker?
Discrimination is demonstrated when an interviewee is less favourably treated because of their gender, sexual orientation, race or religious belief. An example of this might be where a black candidate with the best qualifications is passed-over in favour of a white candidate with lesser qualifications. Similarly, if a female applicant is turned down in favour of a male jobseeker with a less appropriate skill set, this is also discrimination. Equally preferences and biases towards majority groups breach the three Equal Opportunity Acts mentioned above. For example though the armed forces and the Fire Brigade are male dominated working environments minimum physical requirements have been set so that successful selection is open to all jobseekers that meet the requirements regardless of gender.
