A lot of people use the format FAT32 for a drive that is shared on both PC and Mac. Many people will also tell you to be careful about this format, that it is slightly unreliable. For instance, you’re running a huge risk if you just unplug the USB/Firewire cable without first properly ejecting the mounted drive from your computer. The thing is, if you try to format it to this type you are going to need to use a 3rd-party software utility like Partition Magic (if you do it on your PC). If you do it on your Mac, which some people don’t really trust doing, you can just use ‘disk utility.’ I don’t think there would be a problem with it, though.
