What forest values and objectives must an FSP address?

This Regulation establishes “objectives set by government” for the following six forest values: soils; timber; wildlife habitat; riparian areas; wildlife and biodiversity; and cultural heritage resources. These objectives are broadly written with an effort to better articulate the meaning of sustainability. For example, for soils, the stated objective is “without unduly reducing the supply of timber from British Columbias forests, to conserve the productivity and the hydrologic function of soils.” (emphasis added). Each of the objectives for wildlife habitat, riparian areas and wildife/biodiversity repeat this theme of conservation balanced against no undue reduction of timber supply. Two other observations about government set objectives. First, the objectives for seven additional forest values will be established separately by government requirements yet to be determined. The seven values listed in the Regulation are: recreation; wildlife habitat areas; ungulate winter range; lakesho
