What foods comes from mixed cultures?
Any place that has been colonized by a former empire or any location where there are you have a lot of different cultures living together. As you mentioned, Vietnamese cooking uses some of the foods and techniques from the French… Pho and the The Sandwiches, Bahn Mi, are what come to mind. Also, California Cuisine and Asian Fusion cooking is popular on the West Coast due to the Asian influence on traditional French cooking. In the South, you have French-Acadian (Cajun), Creole (French, African and Carribean)… As well as Soul Food… which has African roots. Filipino cooking/Mexican Cooking is influenced by the Spanish and vice versa. Tomatoes were strictly a South American food until the colonials brought it back to Europe…. The Europeans, at first, were afraid to eat tomatoes since the plant is part of the Nightshade family (poisonous). Eventually the Europeans did start eating tomatoes and what we think of as Italian cooking is tomato based… I can’t imagine not ever having pi
