What foods are good sources of iron?
Red meat, liver, chicken, fish, fortified cereals, legumes (such as beans, peas, lentils), dark green leafy vegetables. So that Iron can be readily absorbed by the body, it is a good idea to drink a glass of orange juice when having this meal of the day. Children and adults with insufficient iron in their diets, or deficient iron stores, absorb lead more readily. Lead can also interfere with iron uptake and consequently, it is NOT uncommon for those who have an elevated blood level to also be anaemic.
