What food & drink should i serve the adults at a first birthday party (alcohol?)?
I don’t think alcohol is essential especially at a children’s party. However, if you want a very refreshing drink why not try lemon, lime and bitters? Bitters is alcohol-40% proof, but, you only use a few dribbles of it so in the grand scheme of things there is very little alcohol content in a glass. Bitters is available in most big supermarkets and definitely in liquor stores. You can also use it to improve the flavour of stew etc. To make put ice in the bottom of your glass. Put a couple of splashes (bitters comes out of the bottle slowly due to the type of top it has on it) on to the ice and then roll them both around the glass. Then add a smallish quantity 25-30ml of lime cordial then top up with lemonade. For effect add a straw and a slice of lemon or lime. This is a very refreshing drink, pretty close to no alcohol and it doesn’t come stamped with a label for the kids to see and know what the adults are drinking. I would give beer and wine etc a miss though. Lemon, lime and bitte
We have always had alcohol at our family kid’s parties. We also separate our “kid party” from our family/close friends’ parties. This way we do not have to worry about this issue at all. When it is just the children there is no need for alcohol. When we have the family over, we usually have appetizers and a full dinner so we have wine, beer, and sometimes a champagne punch. If you are a family that has wine or beer with dinner I would not worry about having it at your child’s party. I am sure that you are not drunk every evening at dinner so this really should not be any different. You and your family are probably mature enough to handle a glass of wine. If you choose not to have alcohol at your party do not forget to have bottled water as some people do not drink soft drinks. For food it really depends on what you want to serve, budget, and general feeling. We always have a sit down meal (flank steak is always a good bet), but the rest of the family always does buffet style and they u
