What food does an ostrich eat?
Ostriches feed on plant vegetation such as seeds, grains, fruit, shoots, leaves and flowers. They may also feed on large insects such as locusts. Because ostriches do not have teeth, they need to swallow small stones and pebbles to help grind up the food and aid in the digestion process. The average adult ostrich tends to carry about 1 kg of stones in its stomach. Ostriches are able to go without water for several days, getting all their moisture needs from the food they eat.
