What font for direct mail letters?
A lot of direct mail letters that I receive uses Courier font that looks like a typewriter, especially for fund raising, which is my area of interest. I presume this has been repeatedly tested, but can’t find any citations to support a serif, courier-style font, or how it actually compares to other serif fonts or to sans serif. I’m also curious if there are any significant differences between the traditional Courier and a proportionally spaced serif font like Times, plus if there is any real support for Sans Serif typefaces as one commenter on http://www.donorpowerblog.com/donor_power_blog/2008/01/winning-fonts-i.html suggests. Does anyone have references or citations that would be helpful here?
