What follow up actions might the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) staff suggest to education and care notifiers and how should this happen?
CARL staff will only ask notifiers to undertake follow up actions through the education or care site leader (principal, director, manager etc). For example, CARL staff may ask a notifier to speak with their site leader about • raising an issue of concern with parents (see question below) • speaking with a child/young person to gather more information • gaining more information about the involvement of other agencies • referring the child/young person and/or their family to another service In all cases it is at the discretion and judgement of the site leader as to how appropriate this follow up action is considered to be. Site leaders will consider a number of factors in making this decision including • the fragility or vulnerability of the child/young person and their likely response to being asked for further clarifying information • the status of the relationship the site has with the family • the safety of staff and children/young people at the site • the impact on or connection wit
