Are you sure about the 16oc? The 2nd floor garage I worked on called for 12oc. The ends of the 2 x 12 boards would be set on a joist anyway so you wouldn’t have to worry about that. Edit- Have you consulted a structural engineer? Or an architect? The garage I worked on was a full, two-car garage. Maybe that makes the difference. But definitely run it by one of those first. I can follow blueprints, but I don’t know the numbers involved that make them come up with the specs they do. Never had the patience to learn that much about that end of the business.
