What fish 4 a 55gallon tank?
You have many choices with a 55g tank. I would first choose a theme/biotpoe. – Peaceful South American theme: Easy to keep, you get to have many smaller fishes with lots of variations. e.g: a group of tetras, rasboras or barbs plus a group of bottom dwelling species such as cories and/or smaller loaches plus a center show fish – Aggressive large New World Cichlid theme: You get to keep only 1 or two fishes. Typically grows quite big and aggressive but also personable. If they have a pair, they will show cichlid parenting behavior. e.g: Single Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, or a pair of Convict – Mbuna species theme from Lake Malawi in Africa You get to keep few very active and very colorful species. Mbuna tank is usually overstocked by design to control aggression. e.g. 6 x Pseudotropheus Acei (ideally 1 male, 5 females) 6 x Yellow Lab (ideally 1 male, 5 females) 1 x Bristlenose Pleco I’ve written an article that talks about stocking 55g tank.
