What feminist ideas are reflected in mahaswetadevis story draupadi?
I suppose the central theme in the story is how a woman can overcome her difficulties through her own resourcefulness, when all the men around her act foolishly and chauvinistically. Draupadi’s devotion to Krishna earns her five husbands, a reverse of normal polygamous practices, with the qualities she prayed for. When their stupidity renders the family slaves, she is the only one who cannot be debased (her sari was never removed) and she manages to free them and restore their honour. Draupadi is identified with the goddess Kali, the destroyer. As sister to Vishnu ( as an avatar in Krishna) she is accorded with the most honour and devotion by one of the central gods in the Hindu pantheon.
