What factors lead to the creation of Israel?
i think any sustantial political movement to the creation of the state started in 1902 with the Balfour Declaration from the British PM in terms of the actual creation, many western states claim they created israel for the jews so the jewish community could actually feel safe after the horrors of the holocaust in terms of US foreign policy now, they often say the reason for their strong support for Israel is because they are the only democratic country in the middle east, surrounded by autocracy – so essentially, it gave america a foothold in the middle east. they have strong ties with israel and spend millions on aid for israel. they also supported them against attacks from other middle eastern countries in 1960s and 70s there is the theory that a ‘jewish lobby’ exists in the US – basically, people say that jews have strong influence in american plitics even though they only number 2% of the population – so if this does actually exist (cant be proven) it could be a factor i think the
