What factors influence development of moral concepts in children?
A child has four stages for development; primary social awareness usually prominent by three years of age, ideas of reward and punishment what is required and what is forbidden. By about eight years of age the ideas of interpersonal good and evil have developed further and there can be choice of companion and discrimination according to perceived conduct. The neighbourhood can be more important than the parents up to this point. From 12 to 17 the role of teachers can be shaping assuming the student is still in school, and apprenticeship can take over. From 17 onwards the idea of sex strongly enters the issue and early courtship and marriage with the appearance of children can be of final shaping effect in bringing the child into society. Some ideas come from the parents more from the neighbourhood some from teachers and at last the business of supporting a family takes over.
