While young people have always played vital roles in society, today their role is fast gaining momentum. The forces of globalization, including the proliferation of today’s mass media and rise of the Internet and global connectivity, have made young people more aware of urgent issues shared around the world and better able to see their contributions within a global context. The information and communications technology revolution has made it possible for increasing numbers of young people to access valuable information and funding resources, publicize their projects, network with one another, and connect to other organizations that can help strengthen and support their work.
