What factor/s decided the outcome of the battle of Midway?
The main factor that decided the Battle of Midway was the breaking of the Jappanese code. This allowed a rather risky but very well executed plan to confront the Jappanese attack fleet and resulted in the destruction of four of their six large fleet carriers they sent as well as all their aircraft and pilots. Also almost without historical notation is the fact that the US Navy, severely unprepared and its aircraft so very outdated learned that through the sacrifice of six torpedo squadrons that radical changes had to be made immediately. It also brought out the fact that the only way to effectively engage surface warships was the SBD and later the Curtis Helldiver. The outcome was luck, skill, and unbeleivable determination and sacrifice to acchieve the first victory of the war. The breaking of the Jap code also brought about the destruction of its merchant marine fleet by our fleet submarines that led to thousands of troops cut off, strangled, and taken out of the war without a shot b
