What extra services can be received using a CableCARD?
Some digital signals on a cable TV system are encrypted (scrambled). A converter box or CableCARD is required to receive any of these signals. CableCARDs are able to receive all encrypted signals. These include the High Definition signals of cable TV networks (like ESPN and CNN) without an extra monthly fee. Other encrypted signals include premium movie services (like HBO), premium sports packages (like NCAA football and basketball packages) and Digital Basic service (including more than 40 additional program services).
