What experience do RJW have of whistleblowing claims?
We have considerable experience of advising and acting for employees in whistleblowing matters. Examples of our cases include the following: • Lingard v HM Prison Service. We acted for a female prison officer who was victimised after reporting on serious wrongdoing in HMP Wakefield. This case led after hard fought hearings on liability and remedy to what is believed to be the biggest award in any public sector whistleblowing case to date, £477,000 with the employer also paying legal costs. The case led to the Director General of the Prison Service to tell Radio 4’s File on Four that this had been an ‘ indefensible’ case which his Service ‘needed to learn lessons from’ and was cited by the CRE in its evidence to the Mubarek Inquiry.
