Point’s scholarship award covers a variety of expenses such as tuition, books, room, board and basic living expenses. Point estimates that a college education costs between $8,000 and $80,000 per year, depending on which school one attends and the amount of financial support that may already exist. Some scholars may only need money to cover living expenses or books while others may need more. Point scholarships are awarded on a “last provider” basis. Point fills in the gaps and provides funds not provided by other scholarships, grants, loans, work/study programs, etc. It is the responsibility of the Point Scholar to secure as much outside funding as possible. Point is not intended to be, and cannot be, the sole source of support because there is no guarantee that the financial support will be the same each year, or will be provided each year. Point’s Board of Directors makes every attempt to assist each scholar to the full extent possible so they may focus on their academic career rather than worry about funding.
