What excuse does 13 year old Casie Cathrea have for missing school this week?
Casie Cathrea likely won’t play in the LPGA Challenge this weekend. But the 13-year-old still managed to leave a lasting impression on the gallery at Blackhawk Country Club Friday afternoon. Cathrea, who quickly became a crowd favorite during her time in the tournament, wore a huge smile as she finished her round with a birdie on the par 4 18th hole at the Lakeside Course. She shot a 3 over 75 on Friday and is at 5 over for the tournament. The projected cut line early Friday afternoon was 2 over with the top 70 players and ties advancing to play Saturday and Sunday’s rounds. Cathrea birdied the 18th hole for the second straight day as she hit her approach shot from 115 yards away to within 8 feet of the cup. A few dozen people and two television cameras followed Cathrea for the final few holes, and a large gallery greeted her at the 18th green. After her round, she signed newspapers, programs, hats and golf balls for 15 minutes. “Hopefully I can play (this tournament again) next year,”
