WHAT EXACTLY IS THYROID?
Before you read any further, it is very important that you know what a thyroid gland is. Keep your flat palm over the front of the neck and you’ll feel something wobbly beneath your skin just on the borders of your wind-pipe—that is exactly where a thyroid gland is. (If you are overweight , then no use trying this—you’ll only feel some layers of fat!). The thyroid gland is one of the most beautiful (?) glands shaped like a butterfly enveloping the lower part of your wind-pipe. Now this gland produces a hormone (thyroxine) which is actually a controller of body metabolism. In other words, thyroxine is like a thermostat that calculates and tells the body how much food should be converted to energy, where energy is needed most and where and when new cells have to be built.
