WHAT EXACTLY IS THAT BRASS PIECE IN FRONT OF BOELTER HALL?
I’m sure some people have often wondered what exactly is that sculpture outside of Boelter Hall’s main entrance which seems to resemble a 4-foot high trapezoid with a circle on top. This brass piece is known as the Bent, which is Tau Beta Pi’s official symbol. Every collegate chapter within this country has one, which proudly recognizes the college as having a Tau Beta Pi chapter on campus. Each quarter where California Epsilon holds new candidate elections, all candidates are required to help California Epsilon’s treasured icon by participating in the “Bent Polish” ceremony, where both candidates and some members alike gather to help polish our Bent piece until it shines, while at the same time, receiving the opportunity to get to know each other better.
