SysEx means System Exclusive. These are MIDI messages that are addressed for a particular synth, so you can send these messages and only the correct synth will respond to them. Files which contain only SysEx messages usually have a .SYX file extension. The two main uses for SysEx are: • Make changes to a synth while a song is playing. • Send/Receive Patches/Performances/etc to and from a synth. SysEx also allows you to access most of the functions of the synth that you can access from the keyboard via MIDI messages.
