What exactly is sheet music / sight reading?
Well… sheet music is simply what it suggests. It’s music documented on paper. If you know how to read it, sheet music will tell you how to play a certain song (or series of notes) on various instruments. There are entire classes on this, but one only really needs to know the basics. Sight reading is being able to read and play sheet music just by looking at it. It’s as if you were reading a book. You just look at a word and know what it is. When you sight read, you see a note and instantly (naturally) know exactly how to play it on whatever instrument you need. This comes with a lot of practice. That’s it in a nutshell, but like I said, you can go so far in depth on this subject, it’s a major in college.
