What exactly is public service advising?
In some ways, public service and public interest advising looks a lot different from pre-law and pre-med advising. The reason is pretty simple: there are a lot of different (and equally successful) routes into the diverse world of public service work. You aren’t all going to be filling out the same application, or worrying about the same standardized test. There aren’t “rankings” of public service organizations, as there are for law or med schools, and comparisons along those lines are not generally as productive in the public service field. But despite the uniqueness of the public service field, we focus as an advising team on some well-worn paths and proven tools that many students in your position have used successfully in the past. Specifically, we try to offer three kinds of advising. First, we try to provide workshops, panels, and speakers that we think will be of interest to you.
