Electricity “generation” or “supply” is open to competition in some areas. In such areas, you can select an energy provider for the generation portion of your electricity usage. Transmission and distribution, the process by which electricity is transported through wires from a power plant to your business, is still regulated by state utility commissions and is not open to competition in most areas.
