What exactly is media studies?
Media studies degrees vary enormously between Universities, so you will need to decide which aspects you’re particularly interested in and hunt through a stack of prospectuses that offer the aspects that you want. Some media studies degrees are mostly or entirely theoretical. You will study things like the politics of the media, the effect of various types of media communication on audiences, representation of various groups in the media and perhaps how the media and its messages vary between countries. Some also include opportunities to study film. Other media degrees feature varying elements of practical media work. For example, you may get the opportunity to learn about radio production and broadcasting, journalism, photography, scriptwriting, video making and web design.
