What exactly is “local toll”? How is it different from local service and long distance?

Telephone service in the U.S. is generally offered with three different pricing zones: • Local Service – Usually a flat rate for unlimited calling within about a 12 mile radius • Local Toll – The calls that are made within your telephone company’s service area, but are outside of the Local Service area. These calls are sometimes referred to as Local Long Distance or Intra-LATA calls, they are charged by the minute and they can be very expensive. These charges show up on your local phone bill and are not carried by your long distance carrier of choice. • Long Distance – All other calls not designated as Local Service or Local Toll calls. These can include in-state, state-to-state and international calls. V-Global Communication’s low cost service will automatically replace all expensive Local Toll and Long Distance calls all day, every day.
