What exactly is humanity?
Possibly the most comprehensive definition of humanity has been expressed as “the quality of being humane; the kind feelings, dispositions, and sympathies of man; especially, a disposition to relieve persons or animals in distress, and to treat all creatures with kindness and tenderness.” In other words, it is the interactions between human beings, and in particular the compassion we extend to each other, that define what the influential philosopher Hannah Arendt called ‘the Human Condition’.
