– Along with approximately 125 delegates, Dr Jeff Walkley represented ACHPER Victoria at a National Curriculum Victorian Consultation Forum on Wednesday 12 November 2008. It is apparent that significant work remains to be done to convince education stakeholders of the actual merits of a national curriculum, as well as the content to be included in the Phase 1 subjects of English, Math, Sciences and History. During the day, several delegates raised strong objections to the apparent snub of Health and Physical Education (HPE) in the national curriculum. In response to these concerns, National Curriculum Board Chair, Professor Barry McGaw, indicated that the National Curriculum Board was unable to consider HPE and The Arts as these subjects had not been included in the terms of reference for their work.
