What exactly is environmental science?
Environmental science takes an integrated approach to the study of our environmental systems. It incorporates physical, biological and social sciences to explore the environmental issues we face today. To earn an environmental science degree, one may study a number of different areas, including geology, atmospheric sciences, ecology, biology, soil science, geography, physics and chemistry. Over the past several years, the growth of environmental science degrees around the country has been extraordinary. At UCLA, the major has surged from 10 students in 2006 to 230 students this year, making it one of UCLA’s fastest growing programs. At Iowa State University, the number of students enrolled in environmental science programs grew from 99 students in 2003 to more than 150 last fall. University of Phoenix now offers a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science to meet these demands. “Student interest and requests prompted the University to begin looking at degrees that have relevance to
