Engineered hardwood flooring is a hybrid of solid hardwood and laminate flooring. It is made of a few layers: a hardwood, plywood core or HDF, and a wood veneer. First layer is a part of true solid wood, making it similar to solid hardwood. The second layer is a coating of wood veneer somewhat similar to laminate flooring. Materials of engineered hardwood flooring Although engineered, this type of flooring is still made of 100% genuine wood. The inside core is made of several layers of solid wood or plywood. It is a sandwich of finish wood on top which is 1/16 inches to 1/8 inches and non finish plywood underneath it. To protect the core, a wood veneer is coated on top of it, preventing moisture and other sources of damages from entering.
