What exactly is covered under a “powertrain warranty”?
Read that warranty closely, especially concerning what the warranty defines as “powertrain”and the various parts of it, how long the warranty is and what costs will be paid as time goes on. After a given time or mileage parts but not labor may be covered, later own only a part of the costs are covered.The warranty may define words differently than general usage. “Powertrain” is usually defined as the engine and transmission as a unit, including the clutch or converter between them. The warranty usually doesn’t include the clutch disc inside the housing , it is designed to wear out sacrificially instead of other more expensive parts. The word “engine” usually means what is called a “long block” or every thing except what can be taken off the engine without removing the valve cover or oil pan.
