What exactly is a truck step, and what other different types of sidesteps are available?
There are an enormous variety of sidesteps of available. In general, they can be broken down into three main categories: nerf bars, running boards, and what we call ‘truck steps’. “Truck steps’, as we call them, are individual single steps that do not extend along the length of your truck’s rocker panel and are just wide enough to fit your foot. Nerf bars are tubular step bars that extend away from the body of the truck to serve as a step. There are an enormous variety of styles and finishes available for nerf bars. Running boards are flat step panels that run directly alongside the body of the truck, and there is huge variety of running boards available on the market. They are available in fiberglass, plastic, or metal, and with or without lights. The options are seemingly endless with side steps, and really your choice just comes down to a matter of taste for how you want your truck to look.
