What exactly is a “scannable” resume?
Scannable resumes are very similar to the traditional resume. They include the same categories and information, but they lack the formatting of a traditional resume. A scannable resume does not include the use of bold, underlines, italics, font changes, bullets, and other specific design features. Scannable resumes also contain “keywords.” These are words that employers use in their job postings, advertisements and job descriptions related to the qualifications for the position. As a result, you need to identify the keywords used by employers and assure that those words are contained in your resume. The employer will then scan resumes electronically to search for the ones that contain the keywords they have identified as important. Scannable resumes have become very popular with employers as a time-efficient method of screening a large number of resumes at one time.
