What exactly is a flashover?
Flashover is a term used by the fire service industry to describe a phase of the combustion process. It occurs when all the contents of an environment reach their ignition point and ignite. It can often be a very visible occurrence and is noted by a rapid increase in volume of fire to a particular area. Not only do the contents of the room ignite, but the unburned gases from the combustion process that have accumulated at the ceiling will simultaneously ignite.
