What exactly is a composite?
In general, a composite is two or more dissimilar materials, which when combined are stronger than the sum of the individual materials. They are most often manmade, but there are many examples of naturally occurring composites. Wood is probably one of the most common naturally occurring composites. It is composed of lignin and cellulose. Cellulose is the fibrous material in the wood and the lignin is a natural “glue” that holds the fibers together.
