Some pro-democracy groups, mostly students, were protesting and occupied the Square for weeks. Despite the advice from the government, even the Prime Minister go there personally, the students refused to go. Then on 6 Jun 1989 army was sent in to clear the square. According to a clear documentary from a Spanish TV crew, the clearing was peaceful and there were no violence. However at the outskirt of the square, and various part of the city, there are violence and conflict between mobs and the army. There were people killed and injured, not just the mobs, army as well. And this incident was being projected as a “massacre” in western media. It was very similar to the “Boston Massacre” during the beginning of the American revolution. Actually only 5 villagers was killed at a chaotic conflict, and it was then being portraited as a British planned “massacre” to suit the political need.
