What exactly does the RAID Option provide?
CA has developed the first truly fault tolerant backup and restore software solution. ARCserveIT, when coupled with the RAID Option provides comprehensive hardware fault tolerance by storing your source data on multiple drives. RAID-1 enables ARCserveIT to “see” two identical tape drives as a single logical device and stream data to that device. If one of the drives should fail, the other drive will continue the job, without having to reset and start from the beginning. RAID-5, in similar fashion, allows ARCserveIT to “see” three or five identical drives as a single logical device. By implementing the same RAID-5 algorithm that is used for large disk arrays, widely considered to be the most reliable storage solution today, source data and parity blocks are striped to the multiple drives simultaneously.
