Most people in this country have never actually read the constitution and its amendments, and learn through pure hearsay especially the very debated subject of the seperation of church and state. The first Amendment states exactly the following “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of press, or the right of people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” So basically they can make no law respecting nor prohibiting the exercise or establishment of religion. The words “seperation” “church” and the word “state” are not even mentioned in the first amendment. The notion that you can’t have anything religious on local, state or national government property is based on the people who did not read the constitution, and not at all of what is written in the constitution.
